The Brunchfast Club: Smith's of Smithfield

Beef, Benedict, Bloody Mary = BRUNCH

Now it's no secret that I am a fan of brunch. Oh who am I kidding? I am possibly the worlds biggest fan of brunch. If I could eat only one other meal, it would be brunch. All the way. Brunch. Remember that..

Smiths of Smithfield = SOS; Clever, no?

So when my friend Isabel suggested brunch on a lovely, early-spring, London Saturday, well lets just say she didn't exactly have to twist my arm.

We decided to go to Smith's of Smithfield. Run by John Torode, of MasterChef fame, I'd previously been before in the evening when it transforms into a popular post-work City drinking hole, however on weekend mornings it promised to offer a pretty satisfying brunch menu. So we decided to check it out.

Smile kids, you're on the internet!

As you can see, the interior has this heavy industrial feel which compliments its location right across from the Smithfield market perfectly.  However as there is so much light in the space it doesn't feel at all cold or dingy.

But to more important matters. Food. Ahh, yes, the food.  I ordered (and this is no word of a lie) pancakes & maple syrup, and then the second breakfast option of bacon, eggs and toast.  I then proceeded to amalgamate the two dishes onto the same plate and pouring the (sadly, limited) portion of maple syrup over the whole sexy lot. This attracted stares from fellow diners, but you know what? I didn't even care that sweet and savoury brunch items on the same plate are somewhat of a culinary faux-pas in the UK. I ate every single bite with relish and I bloody loved it!

LJ you are being inconsistent!

When I offer you savoury and sweet together you say they don't go - eg turkey and cranbery sauce, Pork and apple sauce, toast and jam???
Now you are praising that combination!
Next time you are home I will insist that you eat turkey and cranberry sauce sandwiches all day.

Secondly you have forgotten what I taught you - if there is not enough, ask for more. What was "Oliver" about!

Dad: Brunch is the exception to the rule. It's always the exception to the rule. Any rule.. because brunch rules! Hey... I never claimed to make any kind of sense here...

Dooder City: Oh, breakfast burritos are certainly a food of the gods....
